Visit with Van

Van Walton’s childhood experiences in the South American jungles exposed her to mission work and foreign cultures, introducing her to Jesus’ great commission: Love God and neighbor. Today she pursues God’s purpose for her life through writing and speaking. She also teaches Bible and parenting classes to Latina women at the Charlotte, North Carolina Pregnancy Care Center. Van rejoices in her marriage of 36 years and the wondrous adventure of parenting two sons.

Van delights in weaving Biblical Truth into life’s journey. Her early experiences in Venezuela and Colombia combined with multiple moves fanned her passion to pursue God’s purpose. From teaching teenagers in high school to challenging children in church, Jesus’ command has remained Van’s compass. Of her calling, she says, “Absolute joy is found in shining the light of The Word on a woman’s path to Jesus and celebrating freedom in Christ.”

Van, the director of the Hispanic Ministry for Proverbs 31 Ministries is also a member of the Speakers Team. She is a trained CLASS (Christian Leaders and Speakers Services) speaker, and a Certified Personality Trainer. She is the author of a children’s book, a contributing author to several publications, a graduate of Kay Arthur’s Precepts Bible Study Training, has presented and taught with Dr. Ken Canfield, Center for Fathering, at FATHER / DAUGHTER SUMMITS, and has appeared on INSP ( i-life tv) RAISING AN AMAZING GENERATION.

Hi Van, I know you don't collect "awards" on your site, I'm not into posting them either. Put I was gifted with a "Blogger of the World" award because of my missions emphasis. I wanted you to know that I have passed it on to you as well because of the work you do as P31's Director of Hispanic Minsitries and your trip to see your Compassion children.

I continue to pray for the family that lost their son right after Christmas.

Van,
Thank you so much for 'Created for the garden, but lost in the jungle.'

God has been speaking to me all day, and your blog has been part of that. thanks.

Earlier today God reminded me that my beautiful 14 year old daughter is a rose and not a thorn. Yes, she is a beautiful rose and always will be. Sadly, she is living in a jungle right now. My prayer is that God will quickly transplant back in the 'garden.'

May God bless you and your family and ministry - may a firewall surround you and yours.

I believe I have found a kindred spirit.

I just read "The Splinter" in the Encouragement for Today (April 3). I love the picture you paint with the splinter in the finger analogy. I didn't see any where in your article, however, the words "confess" (agreeing with God about your sin) or "repent" (turning away from that sin), which God requires for us to access His forgiveness.

I just read the antique chest post in Proverbs 31 newsletter from yesterday and was really moved by your encouragement about saving and planning for what we purchase. Funny thing, when my husband and I were first married, a china cabinet was the first major furniture purchase as well however it was because of the stacks of boxes all over our living and dining rooms that spurred us to make that purchase - we had no where to put all the wedding gifts!!! Thank you for your important message. Blessings.

I read your devotion about the "Poison Ivy" I was truly blessed by it. It is such a good illustration of how we think that what we are doing is good to find out that we have actually gone off the path the Lord wants us to take. That is a unique way to explain sin to those who may not understand just a definition. Lots of times we need something that we can see, feel or touch to get the true meaning of something that is hard to comprehend. Thanks for the words that have brought a better meaning of sin to me. May God truly bless you.

Hi Van, I don't know if you remember me, but we shared a hotel room way back in 2003. My name is Gail Snow. I am so excited about what's been happening in your life since then. From the pound to the Palace was just in the planning stages when I met you. You're looking great and doing great as far as I can see. I have a lot to share with you. I lost your email from back then and mine has changed since then. So please email me at gsnow1@hughes.net
Love, Gail

After reading your"about me" section, I wanted to let you know my husband's name is also Van. It creates lots of interesting conversations also!
I wanted to tell you that there is a line of clothing you may have heard about called "Life is Good".
They have a T-shirt witha mini van loaded down and the subtitle is "Van Go". Thought you might like that!

Have a good day...and Merry Christmas!

Hi Van! I share your love of sunrises and have one from just about every place we have been in the past 10 years. I love sunset too and it IS the clouds that make both so beautiful. What a great example of how the clouds in our lives can work!! My cloud of my dad's death brought me, my husband and my son's family to the Lord! What a GREAT cloud that was!!

I would love a copy of you book for my two grandsons, Tyler (7) and Sammy (5). Both are very much into animals and insects and have taught me more than you can imagine about both! I know they would love your book!

Thank you for this special offer and this wonderful blog!!

God be with you as you continue to bless others in His holy name!!

Hey Van.

I checked your site out a few weeks ago when I got your lovely comment on my blog. My intent was to get back here that same evening and leave you a comment... As you can see it didn't happen. I'm here now though and I'm happy to "meet" you. I'll be back often. Thanks again for your comment. Blessings, Isunji

Hello Van!

This is the first time I have visited your blog and it has been so very uplifting to me. I am at the present time dealing with my husband having Alzheimer's Disease. I know how hard it is to take your loved one to the Lord and just leave him there. But I found that I have just had to do
that in order to keep my sanity. I
told the Lord that I knew my husband was in the best place right now and they are just wonderful to him but nobody has to say that I have to like it.

I learned a long time ago that I couldn't go every day no matter how much I love him but it was just too hard emotionally. So I would go a couple of times a week and that worked out better. When you go everyday it makes you feel so utterly hopeless and their isn't anything you can do for them but just love them and pray that the prognosis will be reversed and they can come home someday.

I just wanted to thank you for your encouraging words.

Have a Blessed Day!

I read the devotional you wrote for Proverbs 31 Woman today. It was one of those moments when you know God is speaking directly to you. When I went to your blog, He spoke to me more. On top of that, I noted that you will be speaking in Santa Fe. I am calling the church there today to find out the information to attend so that I can learn more about waiting. I believe that there is a reason I looked at your blog and checked your schedule. I am going through a very hurtful time right now and I know God used you to help encourage me. Thank you.

Hi Van. It is so nice to e-meet you! I read your "I know how I designed it" devotional today & was blessed. First, your husband sounds like my dad. Second, that helped drive deep the message of how trust-worthy our mighty & faithful God is. I whole-heartedly prayed the prayer you posted at the bottom, and look forward to seeing how my life will be changed. Thank you so much for sharing what He pours into your life. Oh, and the Grand Canyon photos were great...I went there for the 1st time last year...was only disappointed at how impossible it was to capture it with my camera! Arghhh! :) See you in heaven if not sooner!

Wow! I just read your devotion, "Nothing More to Say" and I must confess that I could have wrote that too. My daughter and son-in-law are going through a divorce and I thought I had all the answers to help them. I bought books and thought if I could just get them together at the same time that we could sit down and magically work it out. I was so wrong! I prayed like you did and God stopped me in my tracks and told me," you've prayed for them, not let me take care of it." Thank you for this devotion today, I really needed to hear it!

Dear Van,

I just read your devotion about Peter and trusting God when it seems we have exhausted ourselves. (Encouragement Today) I just wanted to tell you that it was at no more of a perfect time for me. I went into insurance sales recently and am not doing as well as the rest in my office. I already feel beaten down and am ready to just reschedule my appointments until a day when it's "more worthwhile" for me to go out. But through your words I remember I need to trust Jesus. The Holyspirit is asking me to go out one more time. Leave my doubts behind and just go. He never asks me to do something without a reason. And I have to remember that even though I am trying to fill up my financial net. The Lord may be filling up one of my other hundreds of empty nets. It's not up to me to question God, but to follow.

Thank you.
