Fun Facts about Van Walton

My favorite smell: The way the earth smells after it rains.

My favorite sound: The first notes of a grand symphony.

My favorite way to relax: Sitting anywhere outside - on my front porch, on my deck, or by the lake, early in the morning with my first cup of coffee.

My favorite birthday dessert: a Peach cobbler baked by my husband. He’s my fave chef!

I will not eat: Avocado. They turn my stomach into a volcano that never erupts.

WHAT'S IN YOUR WALLET?

Ben Stein’s most recent commentary caused me to refocus, making me realize a truth. And in light of the world’s woes, I wished for everyone-that we could all believe and take to heart his wise words. If you like to can watch him make his commentary – I highly recommend that you do. He spoke less than two minutes and said so much~

This is what I took away:

We must remember during these tough times, when we seem to be losing it all-
*we are not the houses we live in

*we are not the cars we drive

*we are not the clothes we wear

*we are not the jobs we perform

*we are human beings with a soul

*we are not the prestigious schools where we enroll our children

WE ARE THE CONTENT OF OUR CHARACTER

Now for my thoughts:

So I think of the Cap One commercial. “What’s in your wallet?”

I ask myself, “What’s in your character vault?”

I have no idea what 2009 will bring to my doorstep, but I know one thing that can’t be taken away from me – my relationship with Jesus!

So I continue on my journey of getting to know HIM.

All I Once Held Dear by Graham Kendrick

All I once held dear, built my life upon,

all this world reveres and wars to own,

all I once thought gain I have counted loss,

spent and worthless now compared to this.

Knowing You, Jesus, knowing You.

There is no greater thing.

You're my all, You're the best,

You're my joy,my righteousness;

and I love You, Lord.

Now my heart's desire is to know You more,

to be found in You and known as Yours,

to possess by faith what I could not earn,

all surpassing gift of righteousness.

Knowing You, Jesus, knowing You...

Oh, to know the pow'r of Your risen life,

and to know You in Your suffering,

to become like You in Your death,

My Lord, so with You to live and never die.

Knowing You, Jesus.. ,

There is no greater thing.

You're my all, You're the best,

You're my joy, my righteousness...

I love You, Lord.

I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Philippians 3:8

So beautiful, Van.

I love that Ben Stein. For a smarty pants, he's pretty smart. Thanks for sharing this with me, it was worth the time.

I frequently need reminded of these truths...that this world does not determine my value.

I hope this new year is getting off to a great start for you.

Hugs,
Laura

I know you asked what is in your wallet, but I find it comforting to know my picture is in Jesus wallet. I picture him pulling it out to look at me with sweet adoration inspite of my ugly sin! I love the way He lavishes His grace and love upon me even when I don't deserve it!

This is excellent, Van. "What's in your wallet?" I love what Shannon said about Jesus pulling out His wallet with all of our pictures in it! You are so right - the one thing that can never be taken from us is our Lord and Savior. Thanks for the eloquent reminder that this is all we need.

What a line to put in a blockquote! I think God is going to put that on His refrigerator Van! In Him we have everything. His name is I AM. B
